deliberate actions

have you ever thought that some actions were carried out deliberately? to cause a certain positive effect at the end of the day..

it didnt occur to be though til i attended Michael Roe’s lecture just now in the afternoon. His first part of lecture was mainly re-capping what he had taught 3 weeks earlier and kept re-emphasising the fundamentals of jurisdiction which make me bored. But the last 10 mins was something interesting to discuss about as he mention about how his work experience in London, related to traffic lights.

London being a very busy and packed city indeed, and he mentioned that the traffic lights was partly designed by him, in a way like how and where is it suppose to be situated. The traffic lights are designed in a way that it deliberately causes congestion – so the traffic flow is slower which will unlikely to have an accident, and it also “force” people to take public transport as it is faster. But neverthless, the public transport in UK is not as reliable also, but i think it make sense in having a lower chance of accident and when i say accident, it means an involvement of a fatal victim.

It did occur to my mind that if i were to live in London, i will not get a car because of the congestion and this is what Singapore should adopt and take into considerations. Singapore government discouraged the people to own private cars by increasing COE and ERP, and on the other hand, they are expanding the expressway to make it wider so that more car can travel on the road at the same time? Contradicting? VERY! No doubt that if congestion problems are unsolved, the people will sure complain and complain about it and why the government is not doing anything about it (like what we usually do) and our lovely government will build more roads, more flyovers and expand the road just for you!

So maybe take the harsher approach, ignore the congestion problems, make the traffic lights turn “red” longer and allow more pedestrian to walk longer, there will be a time where Singaporeans couldnt take it and they choose to ride a Vespa or take a stroll or flag a bus. But this will be more efficient when the public transport system in Singapore is more established, and its progressing towards it now, linking to more rural area.

Same in life, some actions might be done deliberately because there is something to learn from it or to take back. Like your parents purposely didnt want to give you pocket money because they want you to work during the holidays to understand how precious money is.

We often think that certain deliberate actions are against us, or to our loss, but think again because when you lose something, you will gain another thing somehow. It’s quite fair!
